I’m not sure everyone throwing insults around and making assumptions on everyone else’s intentions is the road to social justice and understanding.
Civil rights are an issue. Gay rights are an issue. It is both a useful and problematic rhetorical tool to liken the gay struggle to black struggle. People see the world in analogies, and their imperfections need to be acknowledged, even if the most quickly communicative thing we have are imperfect analogies.
